Advice based on experience

Rapid expansion of the recycling sector has created strong demand for training, consultancy and briefing services.

With more than 10 years of experience in developing technical and management solutions, ORL is well equipped to meet these service needs.

Each service is tailored for those establishing their own organic disposal facilities, and for those with professional responsibilities for waste management, compliance or policy.

As ORL was initially established as a diversification from farming, our particular strength is in providing one-to-one advice to other farmers considering a similar venture.

We believe that all businesses in the recycling industry have a duty to respond to public interest in their activities and their impact on communities and environment. ORL holds open days and briefings for all interested parties.

Consultancy

  • Set-up and support of on-farm composting schemes
  • Use of compost in crop production
  • Advice on reducing organic waste disposal costs - industry and local government

Guided visits for groups and individuals

We hold scheduled Open Days when visitors to the site are given a guided tour and talk. Visitors include groups from colleges and from local government. Typically we have some 300 people visiting the site each year, either on an open day or on a private visit. In 2001 we won the prestigious Inside UK Enterprise award for the best Farming Host.

Please contact us for more information regarding individual or group visits.

Project management

We offer a complete set-up and support project management service from initial concept through to project delivery. We believe in developing partnerships and provide support throughout the project life cycle.

Recent work includes the completion of feasibility studies for a number of new composting facilities within Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire, and setting up a recycling scheme for the local council and local showground.

Feasibility studies

We are able to undertake feasibility studies on the design and operation of composting facilities.

These are focused on:

  • Site evaluation
  • Assessment of the most appropriate technology and machinery
  • Funding
  • Regulatory constraints
  • Raw material supply
  • Product marketing
  • Community relations
